A seasoned equity advisor and community engagement professional, she has worked collaboratively on a broad range of projects conducting equity assessments and strategic planning, providing one-on-one and group equity coaching and mentorship, facilitating dialogues that are grounded in safe space principles and racial equity, and developing media and social networking platforms for multi-lingual and multi-cultural communities.

Cheney, WA In 1977 a group of students of Mexican ancestry who identified as Chicana/os in recognition of their unique social, cultural and political identities joined forces with a Chicano Art Professor, Rubén Trejo, to establish the Chicano Education Program. Since its creation, this program has served as an academic and community center for students and their families. Today, the Chicana/o/x Studies Program, as is known, provides services for students of all backgrounds: Chicanx, Indigenous, Hispanic, Latinx, immigrant, migrant, Caribbean, Central American, South American, non-Latinx, and beyond. Our program offers academic and non-academic support services both in English and Spanish, such as advising, peer mentorship, and tutoring opportunities, culturally relevant events, scholarship information, and a home away from home. Portland, OR Roots and Beats Project fosters positive youth development through media arts education and cultural engagement. Our curriculum merges tradition and technology to weave culturally-rooted digital storytelling focusing on immigrant, refugee and ethnic diaspora experience. We work in partnership with local nonprofits and schools to provide music and multimedia workshops at no cost to underserved youth ages 12-21 years old.

Our work is informed by a belief that when young people feel safe expressing themselves creatively, embracing cultural diversity, and bonding with adult mentors, it unlocks great potential for the development of wide-ranging skills and competencies towards becoming future community leaders.
