We, the Sundiata African American Cultural Association produce a cultural festival yearly. We have come to know that Festival Sundiata is a breath of fresh air when it comes to racial relations and cultural competency. We are a volunteer group of folks that plan all year and give our best effort to celebrate and introduce the culture of people of African decent to the people in the Northwest. Each one of our festivals are free of charge to attend, you won’t find a better deal anywhere in the Northwest. Make sure to buy a t-shirt or poster to remind you of this great festival.

The Gye Name Dance Ensemble is the creation of principal dancer, Queen T (Tremontenia Morgan). Queen T specializes in teaching traditional African dances to children and adults of all ages. Highly motivated students are encouraged to perform as a group in local festivals, ceremonies, and dance workshops.

In addition to the benefits of exercise, students learn about the customs underlying one of five different dances. Students are encouraged to develop their own costumes and pursue related cultural aspects, e.g., geography, history, and art. Students are expected to develop discipline and concentration skills that carry over into other aspects of their lives.

Queen T and the Gye Nyame Ensemble are available to teach or perform at your organization or event.

Hello! My name is Laja Okunuga of Ade Africana Imports in Seattle, Washington , USA.

We have been trading in fine African Imports from our storefront business on the famous Broadway Ave. in the colorful and thriving Capitol Hill neighborhood for seven years now.

Over the years we have gained respect, and admiration in our community not only for our products, but also for our warm, friendly and comprehensive customer service. The people of Seattle have come to know us as a place where they can not only select from a wide variety of Carvings, Masks, Clothes, Jewelry, and Musical instruments, but also a place from which they can walk away garnering a smile, and a little better understanding of African arts and culture.

The purpose of the association includes: educating immigrants about the difference between the Liberian and American cultures, providing services such as social economic empowerment, job placement, application/resume preparation, computer literacy and youth programs and also to unite ourselves as a community here in the state of Washington, and improve not only our lives in exile, but also those at home, as they strive to rebuild their lives after the devastating civil war.
