Seattle, WA Mary Mahoney Professional Nurses Organization was first established as the Mary Mahoney Registered Nurse Club in 1949. Anne Foy Baker invited 12 other registered nurses to a meeting in her home to meet one another and discuss the idea of establishing a professional organization. Under her leadership, the organization was created with a two-fold mission: to provide information and support to one another, and to provide scholarship support to students pursuing
education and careers in nursing.

We serve individuals and families from Djibouti, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Sudan, Somalia, and neighboring countries that are living in the Greater Seattle area. Our services include social services, educational assistance, youth programs, and economic empowerment to address the needs of the community.

For more than 25 years, we’ve been doing something to change that. Project LEAD—Leadership Effectiveness and Diversity—is a nonprofit board training program open to highly qualified people of color.
The 1,000+ Project LEAD graduates from the last 25+ years are a testament to our community’s commitment to service and diversity. It’s crucial that we take a stand to make sure our community’s boards are representative of the communities they serve and that all voices have an equal seat at the table. You can be a part of that change.
