2023 Day of Remembrance – The Power of Words
The Day of Remembrance commemorates the signing of Executive Order 9066, which led to the exclusion, forced removal, and unjust incarceration of over 120,000 Japanese Americans during WWII.
The Power of Words
Words can uplift or repress. The 2023 Day of Remembrance program will explore the history of Japanese American incarceration, how both words and silence led to this violation of civil liberties and its continuing legacy. The Wassmuth Center for Human Rights Spiral of Injustice will be discussed, its implications today, and what steps each of us can take to stop the Spiral of Injustice. The program will include short films, speakers, and discussion. Tours of the Anne Frank Human Rights Memorial offered after the program.
