During the spring of 1941, Hillel hired its first rabbi, rented a house just up the street from our current location and hosted its first Passover lunches. During the first 15 years, Hillel had a series of nine different Rabbis leading the organization. In 1958, Rabbi Arthur A. Jacobovitz was hired and successfully led Hillel for the next 30 years. Known as Rabbi J, Rabbi Jacobovitz is memorialized in Hillel’s Beit Midrash that is named after him. In 1988, Rabbi Daniel E. Bridge began his tenure at Hillel UW. Under Rabbi Bridge’s leadership, Hillel UW expanded physically into its current building after a community-wide capital campaign.

In 2000 Hillel’s role in the community expanded to enhance our Grads-Plus program into the very successful Jconnect program in order to serve the growing population of Jewish graduate students and young adults, ages 21-35, in the Seattle community.

Under the current leadership of Amee Huppin Sherer, Hillel’s Greenstein Family Executive Director, Hillel UW continues to empower young adults to explore, connect, and celebrate Jewish life on campus and throughout our community!
