What started out in 1986 as a small gathering in Eugene, Oregon to celebrate the cultural heritage of our community’s small Asian population has evolved over the years to become an event that has attracted more than 15,000 people over a 2-day festival weekend. The mission of the original gathering has remained true to this day with organizers, regardless of their origin and ethnicity, committed to promoting and sharing Asian and Asian American cultural heritage and traditions as a means to enhance understanding of cultural diversity and to strengthen human connections in our community. Organizers especially aim to create opportunities for young people to get involved and learn to appreciate how differences can enrich one’s community.
Since 1986, the festival has showcased performances through songs, dances, and music; fine arts and heritage exhibits; demonstrations of martial arts, crafts, and cooking; cultural games and youth activities; and a bustling marketplace of diverse merchandise and Asian cuisine.
Participation comes from hundreds of volunteers, along with support from public, private, and nonprofit organizations and businesses. The event is recognized as one of the area’s major events in Lane County, OR.
