With gratitude, we recognize that our program resides within the traditional homelands of the Spokane People. We acknowledge the historical and cultural connections with other tribes of this region. We honor the activism of all peoples of color and many other movements for social justice that pace the way before us. And we appreciate all our predecessors who, since 1977, envisioned, organized, and initiated the efforts that gave birth to our program. With this gratitude and enthusiasm, I welcome you to our Chicana/o/x (Latina/o/x) Studies Program at Eastern Washington University!
We are an interdisciplinary academic program and community center. Our interdisciplinary curriculum embraces local, national, transnational, and global frameworks that shaped and continue to form the historical, cultural, and political experiences of Chicana/o/x and all Latina/o/x communities in the US. We address issues of race, class, gender, sexuality, immigration, culture, intersectionality, and much more. In addition, we serve as a community center where we offer a variety of support services in English, Spanish, and Spanglish, such as advising, peer mentorship, scholarship information, cultural events, a kitchen, a student lounge, and above all a welcoming family for everyone. (¡Todos son bienvenidos!)
