In October of 2018, Immigrant Justice Idaho became Idaho’s only agency recognized by the Department of Justice as both a Free Legal Service Provider and Referral Service. Founded by Maria E. Andrade, the principal attorney of Andrade Legal, Immigration Law, IJI fills a colossal gap in Idaho’s immigration legal services available to low income Idahoans: free or low cost removal (deportation) defense. IJI will consult with individuals called to immigration court, and represent individuals in immigration court through attorneys, accredited representatives and volunteers.
IJI will carry on the collaborative work of Andrade Legal advocating for just and humane immigration reform and provide accessible, timely, and culturally appropriate education on immigration law and policy to the public. In addition, IJI will provide the existing Idaho attorney bar with local, affordable training to broaden the competency of attorneys and law students whose immigration law training options are often cost prohibitive due to travel, lodging, and registration costs.
Immigrant Justice Idaho is pleased to receive the support of our colleagues as it enters the non-profit community of immigrant service providers, and our partners in the work for justice in Idaho including: ACLU of Idaho, Community Council of Idaho, Catholic Charities of Idaho Immigration Program, PODER of Idaho, and others.
IJI kicked off its work on October 1, 2018 with a press conference at its home office at 3775 W. Cassia St. Boise, Idaho 83705 and a fundraising party on Friday, November 9, 2018 at the Linen Building.
