In response to the growing popularity of unscripted comedy, Andrew McMasters and Mike Christensen founded Jet City Improv in 1992. Their first-ever show took place at Bite of Seattle on May 18th, 1992. Since then, the company has undergone considerable growth. In 1996, the company incorporated as a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. In 2003, Jet City Improv relocated to and purchased the former Historic University Theater.
Today, Jet City Improv strives to enlighten, educate and entertain audiences through the art of improvisation. The company performs free improv comedy shows for children with disabilities and illnesses in Washington and teaches free improv comedy workshops to homeless, incarcerated and in transition youth in Seattle. The company employs eight staff members and upwards of 50 actors and theater professionals at any point during the course of a production season.
