Kalina Chung’s artwork is inspired by both her daily surroundings and gathered moments. Born and raised in Seattle as a woman of color, she is very conscious of inequity in society, as she strives to make art accessible for all; in matter and in audience. Concepts are pressed for their visual portrayal, as are materials noted for their formal and unique qualities. This leads to Chung’s studio research combining various sculptural processes and media (including wood, metal, glass, and found object). Her work’s content revolves around universal themes linked to human relationships, existence, and interaction through our tangible and intangible connection with the natural world.
