The mission of KMA is to aim at healing, entertaining and empowering a wider Korean American immigrant community in the greater Seattle area by attempting to satisfy their yearning for cultural connection. KMA features a wide variety of classical music such as gagok, Korean folk, and opera.
Korean Music Association (KMA), led by Ray M. Kim, is a nonprofit music organization established in 1980. KMA has a history of over 35 continuous years of Fall concerts, with the addition of Spring Open Concerts for the last seven years. Even if Korean classical music is less frequently performed, KMA’s high esteem for Korean classical music has made it possible to give a concert every year. Alongside the concerts, KMA holds music competitions for young musicians and donates to different causes, such as Cornerstone Medical Services and victims of the sinking of MV Sewol. KMA also performs at various concerts in the community including Celebrate Asia, which is part of the Seattle Symphony’s New Music WORKS initiative.
