Salish Sea Butoh

Performing Art Organizations,Artists
Summary: SALISH SEA BUTOH is a collective of USA-based dancers, performers and multimedia artists — originally co-founded by Iván-Daniel Espinosa and Cosmo Rapaport — in the Pacific Northwest to deepen the study and exploration of Japanese Butoh and Butoh performance.

About once a quarter, we host movement workshops and intensive dance trainings Led by exceptional Butoh teachers and veteran Butoh artists.  We also produce special events, pop-up performances and site-specific dances in nature.

Our workshops and performances take place in Western Washington near or around the “Salish Sea.”  We celebrate the beauty of this ecologically diverse region and its greenspaces, which for thousands of years have been inhabited by the Coast Salish indigenous peoples of the Pacific Northwest Coast.  We acknowledge with gratitude and respect that this region is on the ancestral Coast Salish homelands of the Duwamish, Suquamish, Stillaguamish, and Muckleshoot Tribes, as well as the S’Klallam peoples of the Olympic Peninsula.

All of our events (unless otherwise noted) are open to artists of any medium/background who are curious about Butoh and also to people with little or no dance/performance experience.
