Hundreds of Japanese Americans were arrested in Hawai?i under martial law and the Alien Enemies Act in the wake of the December 7, 1941 attack on Pearl Harbor. Some of these men were processed through Angel Island, before being transferred to Department of Justice internment camps across the United States. The Angel Island Immigration Station Foundation (AIISF) worked with descendents of these men to create short videos about their ancestor’s experiences during World War II. Join Danielle Wetmore, Director of Education at AIISF, and Brian Niiya, Content Director at Densho, to be among the first to view the videos, learn more about the history of the Alien Enemies Act and Angel Islands role as a WWII detention site, and make connections between past and present.
