Holiday Markets 2023

Winter is coming and with it, a slew of awesome holiday markets from organizations around the Northwest! Here are a few of the markets that especially made an impression on EchoX staff and board.

Nov 03–04, Squaxin Island Museum Christmas Market: Shelton, WA 

You can expect more vendors than ever before at this year’s Squaxin Island Museum’s Christmas Market! Vendors will be at two locations this year with some in the Museum and additional vendors in the Squaxin Elders building. Indian tacos and fry bread will be sold by the Mud Bay Indian Shaker Church too. Keep in mind that there are some cash-only vendors and there is not ATM on site, so don’t forget to bring cash.

Nov 4, 12th Annual Jamestown Holiday Craft Fair: Sequim, WA 

Drive to the 7 Cedars Hotel in Sequim to peruse the Jamestown S’Klallam Tribe’s 12th Annual Holiday Craft Fair which will be in 7 Cedars’ Hotel Banquet Rooms. The craft fair will feature work from over 40 Native and Non-Native vendors. I f you’re looking to support a good cause, the Jamestown S’Klallam Tribe will be raffling vendors’ art to benefit tribal programs and have a collection bin to stock up on food staples and hygiene products for their Tribal Food Bank.

Nov 4, Polish Fall Bazaar & Bake Sale: Seattle, WA 

This fifty year tradition Polish Fall Bazaar is a great opportunity to experience Polish culture. Try the Polish plate with Kielbasa, cabbage roll, and pierogi and pick from a variety of Polish pastries. Go upstairs to browse a variety of gifts for the holidays featuring imported art like Bolesławiec pottery. Don’t forget the raffle tickets for a chance to win a basket of Polish goods!

Nov 11, Joulumarkkinat 2023—Finnish Bazaar: Seattle, WA 

Celebrate Finnish culture at the Joulumarkkinat 2023—Finnish Bazaar at Leif Erikson Hall in Seattle. Experience Finnish and Nordic culture through performances, karelian pies, knitted gifts for the holidays.

Nov 17–Dec 31, Silverton Christmas Market: Silverton, OR 

Silverton’s annual German Christmas market the Silverton Christmas Market, is the perfect place to discover gifts from artisan vendors and imported German nutcrackers, smokers, and ornaments.

Nov 18, Alaska Black Business Expo—Holiday Bazaar: Anchorage, AK 

Visit the Alaska Black Business Expo—Holiday Bazaar at the Alaska Native Heritage Center in Anchorage. Get the whole family in the holiday spirit with this family-friendly event. Finish up your holiday shopping and take photos with Santa. There’ll also be a space for kids to enjoy holiday movies and festive activities.

Nov 18, UnderGround Holiday Market: Shoreline, WA 

Also starting this weekend is ShoreLake Arts’ UnderGround Holiday Market from 10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. The market will take place at Shoreline City Hall’s open-air, undercover parking garage where you can find arts, crafts, festive music, workshops, and more!

Nov 18–19, Julefest: Seattle, WA 

Enjoy a traditional outdoor, Nordic Christmas market right in Ballard. At National Nordic Museum’s 46th Annual Julefest shop over 30 vendors while enjoying Nordic holiday tradtions like Æbleskiver, Danish pancakes.

Nov 18–19; Dec 09–10, Suquamish Holiday Bazaar: Suquamish, WA 

Come out to the Suquamish Holiday Bazaar at the House of Awakened Culture in Suquamish. This free, family-friendly event will feature around 30 vendors selling handmade goods. If you’re interested in being a vendor, applications are open until November 17 or until all spots are filled.

Nov 24–26, Indigenous Artists & Vendors Holiday Market 

Come out to see Tlingit & Haida’s Indigenous Artists & Vendors Holiday Market in Juneau. There will be Indigenous artists and vendors with handmade gifts galore.

Nov 24–26, Duwamish Native Arts & Crafts Market: Seattle, WA 

Visit the Native Arts & Crafts Market at the Duwamish Longhouse the last weekend in November to get a jumpstart on your holiday shopping by. Choose from a variety of Native artists selling clothing, jewlery, and art. There will be parking across the street and food vendors so you won’t leave hungry!

Nov 25, The Scandinavian Christmas Goat Market: Portland, OR 

Get into julstämning (the holiday spirit) with the New Sweden Cultural Heritage Society’s Scandinavian Christmas Goat Market this November at Norse Hall in Portland, OR. The event will have Swedish food vendors, live music, and free Dala and Jul goat crafts for kids to make.

Dec 2, Weihnachtsmark: Portland, OR 

Come drink glühwein (German mulled wine) and eat German food while visiting baby goats and vendors selling Christmas gifts! Portland’s Weihnachtsmarkt, hosted by the German American Society of Portland, will also have festive live music and a visit from St. Nikolaus (Santa Claus)!

Dec 2–3, Reciprocity BIPGM Makers Markets: Seattle, WA 

Reciprocity BIPGM Makers Market by Heartful Rootz in Seattle is a do not miss for those in the city the first weekend of December. Find one-of-a-kind, handmade art by local Black, Indigenous, and people-of-the-global-majority artists. You might even find some custom-made items and/or classes!

Dec 2–3, My People’s Market: Portland, OR 

My People’s Market is a collaborative event organized with the purpose of creating opportunities for business owners of color. While you do have to register in order to attend, the market promises over 160 BIPOC small businesses and dining options this season!

Dec 3, Eguberriko Azoka—Basque Christmas Market: Boise, ID 

Get your kids’ Christmas photos taken on a sheep wagon at Eguberriko Azoka—Basque Christmas Market hosted by the Basque Museum and Cultural Center in Boise, ID. This fun Christmas market held the first Sunday of December will feature food and drink, vendors from all over, and lots of activities for kids! There will also be a performance by Boiseko Gazteak, the Center’s dance group.

Dec 8–9, Holiday Native Art Market: Olympia, WA 

Visit s’gʷi gʷi ʔ altxʷ House of Welcome at Evergreen State College to check out their Holiday Native Art Market. There will be a range of artforms to choose from including carvings, weavings, prints, clothing and more. There will also be cozy food like Indian Tacos, frybread, and soups for sale, so come hungry! Parking is $3 and there is some ADA accessible parking near the Longhouse.

Dec 9, Hilltop Holiday: Tacoma, WA 

Hilltop Holiday hosted by Black Night Market & Tacoma Arts Live will be hosting over 80 vendors at the Tacoma Armory. Bring the whole family out to enjoy food, performances, and take pictures with Black Santa.

Dec 9–10, Portland Holiday 2023 Market: Portland, OR 

Check out Unique Markets in Portland this holiday season. They’re a woman of color owned business featuring over 150 vendors selling home goods, art, clothing jewelry and more.  Look forward to free drinks, music, food and free gift wrapping too!

Dec 9–10, ScanFair: Portland, OR 

Hosted by Nordic Northwest, Portland’s ScanFair promises to bring Scandinavia to Portland with traditional food and drink vendors; an entertainment program focused on cultural heritage; games, activities, and crafts; and welcoming local community organizations! There is an entry fee, but your wristband from day one will get you into the second day of festivities free of charge!

Dec 15-17, United Indians Native Art Market: Seattle, WA 

Buy Native-made this year by visiting United Indians of All Tribes Foundation’s Native Art Market at Daybreak Star Indian Cultural Center. Native artists and makers across the Salish Sea will be selling clothing, jewelry, drums, carvings, and more. If you can’t come out to the markets in December, stay tuned for another market in May!
