AlpenFolk was formed as an Austrian style folk duet in 1987 by Thomas Tilton and Corinne Pflug-Tilton. Now a quartet, Thomas plays the traditional steirische Harmonika, or button accordion, while Cori contributes the lovely ring of the hammered dulcimer. Their son, Peter steals the show with fine guitar work, rhythm instruments and vocals. Completing the ensemble is the talented Robert Baumann on string bass and vocals. The combination of these folk instruments, along with traditional vocals and yodeling, gives AlpenFolk a uniqueness and authenticity rarely enjoyed outside of the alpine regions from which their music is drawn.

Austria Club of Washington is a non-profit organization, incorporated under the laws of the State of Washington, USA. The Austria Club of Washington was founded in 1976 thanks to the dedicated efforts of ten, Austria born immigrants. They were: Inge Waltz, Alma Kramer, Maria Highton, Bill and Trude Leimer, Fritz and Grete Duchon, Otto and Heide Waniczek, Alex and Trude Schwarz. The first meeting was held at the Camlin Hotel in Seattle, on February 26, 1976. Inge Waltz became the club’s first president. The club functions under the direction of an elected board, consisting of a president, vice president, secretary, treasurer and several trustees. In addition, the club forms various committees to plan and organize various social events, manage special projects, recruit new members, publish a newsletter, handle telephone calls, maintain contact with other ethnic groups and fulfill “sunshine lady” responsibilities.

Today, the SCI network represents more than 2,500 communities with some 137 countries around the world. Bellevue joined this effort in 1969 when the city of Yao, Japan, became its first Sister City and the Bellevue Sister Cities Association was officially established! In 2019 Bellevue Sister Cities Association will celebrate it’s 50th anniversary as an organization and it’s 50th anniversary of being a Sister City to Yao, Japan!

The Slavonic Mutual and Benevolent Society was founded in San Francisco in 1857 by Croatian immigrants, primarily from the Dalmatian coast of Croatia. Until 1975 the Society was based on fraternal membership, a type of organization with a long tradition among Croatians from Slavonia, Dalmatia, Istria, Croatia Proper, Hercegovina and Bosnia. In 1979 the dream of a physical home was realized, and the Croatian American Cultural Center on Alemany Street opened its doors, as a center to share the rich cultural heritage Croatia. The scope of programs broadened and the Center has become an important gathering place for enthusiasts of Croatia and other Slavic music and dance, and recent immigrants as well as long time members. Croatian American Cultural Center opened its doors on March 24, 1979 on the corner of Alemany and Onondaga Avenues in San Francisco. The Center has become a focal point for the many cultural events and activities through the years.
