Ildikó Kalapács and Wayne Kraft founded the Erdély Ensemble in Spokane, Washington, in 1988. The Ensemble has devoted itself to the task of studying and performing dances form regions of Hungary and Transylvania (Romania) where astoundingly rich folk traditions once flourished. Due to the pressures of urbanization and 20th century life–as well as the repression of the former Romanian dictatorship–, many of these folk traditions have vanished or are near vanishing. Some of the dances we are studying have been called back into life from film documents made some decades ago.
The Hungarian Family Folk Dancers were founded over 30 years ago to preserve and share the treasures of Hungarian folk dance culture. Supported by the Hungarian American Association of Washington, practices are held weekly in Seattle. The children and adult groups learn the dances progressively. The group performs regularly at the Hungarian American Association of Washington and at other venues, including Northwest Folklife events.
Happy Hans’ Music is proud to have been entertaining audiences of all ages throughout the Pacific Northwest and beyond since 1976. Our unique blend of authentic “old-time” German/Austrian music mixed with popular “sing-along” classics have been a part of many special occasions.
The Polish Home Association was established in 1918. The Hall is a place for celebration, festivals, meals, meetings, and evolving into new generations. Today, as yesterday, it is a hub of activity and a place for people of Polish nationality and descent to come together and celebrate common ground.
