Until historic times, the Makah Tribe was composed of five principal winter villages. The prehistoric population of the Makah was estimated to be between approximately 2000 – 4000 people. Today there are roughly 1500 living in and around Neah Bay. The five villages were located on the shores of the Pacific Ocean and the Strait of Juan de Fuca.

Momi was born and raised in Ohio. After years of living in California Beach towns the family moved to Hawaiʻi. Momi was home. She began her hula training in 1977 with Māpuana deSilva, Hālau Mōhala ʻIlima, in Kailua, Kaʻōhao, Hawaiʻi. Hula became, and remains, the source of her passion.

The Maple Valley Historical Society is an Incorporated Organization within the State of Washington and is classified as a 501-C(3) organization by the Internal Revenue Service of the Federal Government. The organization is an all-volunteer organization formed over 35 years ago. The goals of the organization are to teach people about the history of the Greater Maple Valley area, provide a means for people to do research on their heritage, and to showcase the history of the area through maintaining three (3) museums with displays of the past. The Society has a paid membership of over 300 people and organizations.
