Indigenous American

Through the collective collaboration of tribal members and the community, today, we seek to reclaim a space to revitalize our culture and preserve our living heritage. Together with our allied partners, we have built the Duwamish Longhouse and Cultural Center (DLCC) overlooking the Duwamish River Valley, near the village called hah-AH-poos, a major archeological site known as Duwamish Site No. 1.
Since the initiation of the Indian Education Act of 1972, the Federal Government has assisted local school districts in funding educational programs for all American Indian and Alaska Native children. These programs are intended to provide those children with programs that not only offer them the opportunity to succeed academically but to enrich their cultural lives as well.
