Pat Chessell was born in Vancouver, British Columbia – not the first place that comes to mind when one thinks of Celtic folk musicians. His first public appearance was with his family friend, the late Danny Burns in Vancouver’s now defunct Culpepper’s Pub, a venue which became well known for hosting some of the best Celtic music in town.
Ives Landing, which later became known as Pateros, was established around 1896 by its founder, Lee Ives. In 1900 Charles E. Nosler, a Spanish American War veteran, acquired most of the town site. He renamed it Pateros after a village built largely on stilts he had known in the Philippines. The city was later incorporated in 1913.
Plate of Nations, the signature event of the MLK Business Association, was designed to collectively promote independently-owned restaurants in the MLK community. Immigrants from around the world have settled in the Rainier Valley and started businesses that provide cultural favorites for ethnic communities looking for a taste of home. Those restaurant owners are excited to welcome other customers to join in their traditions.
Take a step back in time and immerse yourself in the rich history of one of Washington State’s oldest towns. Built in 1916 as one of the millsite offices, the museum was designed in 1972 and opened in 1976 housing an abundance of historical items from Port Gamble and the sawmill which operated form 1853-1995.
