The American Red Cross saves lives. When disaster strikes, we respond with food, shelter and hope. When barriers of distance, language or warfare separate loved ones, we open lines of communication. When families, co-workers and communities must prepare for emergencies, we help them take action.
Amplifier is a design lab that builds art to amplify the voices of grassroots movements. We work with our community of social change partners, in both the for-profit and non-profit worlds, to build symbols, language, and distribution strategies that can change the national narrative. We draw from a deep portfolio of artists to commission new art, then take the work and distribute it in unparalleled numbers through creative space hacks, reaching new audiences and driving real change.
THE BIRTH OF THE FESTIVAL The Anacortes Arts and Crafts Festival got its start in 1962 as the brain-child of Dr. Jack Papritz and a group of dedicated community arts patrons. The idea came from Dr. Papritz’s European travels, specifically the Parisienne Montmartre – a French open-air cafe. With the support of the Anacortes Chamber of Commerce, and $300 in seed money, the first festival in July of 1962 was billed as “the longest art display in the world.” In the 50 years since that simple beginning, the Festival has grown into one of the largest and most respected Festivals in the northwest.
