Recently through non-fiction writing works, plays, and screenplays, women at Hedgebrook have been a voice for helping raise awareness in a vast range of issues, including: women’s rights in the Middle East, the spread of AIDS in Africa, inner city violence in America, rights of incarcerated women prisoners, political strife in Cambodia, radioactive fallout in the Ukraine, highway construction dividing a Latino community, the ethical responsibilities of the pharmaceutical industry, and environmental stress on bees.
We are a diverse group of women in the Puget Sound Region that have come together to support our community through trust-based philanthropy.
Indian-American Community Services (IACS) formerly known as India Association of Western Washington (IAWW), is the longest-serving Indian community based organization in the Pacific Northwest. Secular and volunteer-driven, the IACS works to connect and empower the Asian-Indian community through programs, services, and advocacy for people of all ages and all life stages. As a result, the IACS is able to involve its full community in ways that incorporate and respect cultural traditions and values.
J Mase III is a Black/Trans/queer poet & educator based in Seattle by way of Philly. As an educator, Mase has worked with community members in the US, UK, and Canada on the needs of LGBTQIA+ folks and racial justice in spaces such as K-12 schools, universities, faith communities and restricted care facilities. He is founder of awQward, the first trans and queer people of color talent agency.
Kalina Chung’s artwork is inspired by both­­­­­­­­ her daily surroundings and gathered moments. Born and raised in Seattle as a woman of color, she is very conscious of inequity in society, as she strives to make art accessible for all; in matter and in audience
