EchoX includes a steadily growing searchable database of organizations, groups, writers, artists and others organized by ethnicity, cultural focus, type of heritage work and/or type of community action. Check back often to see newly added listings!

Want to add yourself or a group to the EchoX community listing?
Community resource listings will grow organically as you and others are added! If you’re involved with community work related to EchoX themes – ethnic cultural heritage and social action – click ‘Sign Up’ in the upper right corner and add your own page to the Directory for free!

After clicking ‘Sign Up’ you will be taken to a form to fill out to create your account. Once you open your account, you’ll have ongoing access to an EchoX backend template where you may provide any information you want others to see. You can also add your own events to the calendar with details and artwork.

Orkestar RTW is a five-piece band based in Seattle, Washington that began in 1987 as the house band for the Radost Folk Ensemble. Orkestar RTW primarily plays traditional dance and folk music from the countries of Bulgaria, Macedonia, and Serbia.

Ildikó Kalapács and Wayne Kraft founded the Erdély Ensemble in Spokane, Washington, in 1988. The Ensemble has devoted itself to the task of studying and performing dances form regions of Hungary and Transylvania (Romania) where astoundingly rich folk traditions once flourished. Due to the pressures of urbanization and 20th century life--as well as the repression of the former Romanian dictatorship--, many of these folk traditions have vanished or are near vanishing. Some of the dances we are studying have been called back into life from film documents made some decades ago.

BCHCS organizes traditional annual events such as a Christmas celebration, the Zlaten Orfei talent show in March, and the picnic at Lake Sammamish to celebrate Bulgarian Culture and Literacy Day in May. Slavic Oregon Social Services (formerly ROSS) was established by Ecumenical Ministries of Oregon (EMO) in 1994 to serve the needs of Slavic-speaking refugees and immigrants. More than 100,000 Slavic-speaking refugees and immigrants from the former Soviet Union currently reside in the Portland metro area, and the numbers are expected to increase. Census figures show that no other place in the nation has had more of an influx from the former Soviet Union than the Pacific Northwest. Oregon is number two in the nation for Slavic-speaking newcomers.

VOLYA (Freedom in Belarusian) is a Belarusian folk group based in Seattle, Washington (USA). It was created in 2009 with the mission of introducing the people of the Pacific Northwest to the beauty and richness of Belarusian folklore. The group’s repertoire consists of traditional songs from different regions of Belarus, with a particular emphasis on ancient Belarusian songs, many with roots in pre-Christian and Medieval times, which performed in authentic style.
