The genesis of the Indipino Community of Bainbridge Island began when thirty-six Indigenous women from nineteen different tribes in Canada, Washington State and Alaska migrated to Bainbridge Island, Washington to pick berries for Japanese American farmers in late 1930s and early 1940s. There they met and married young Filipino immigrant bachelors and settled on the Puget Sound Island located in the traditional territory of the Suquamish people.

The Filipino Cultural Heritage Society of Washington (FCHSW) proudly presents Pagdiriwang, commemorating the anniversary of Philippine Independence. Held on the first or second week of June at the Seattle Center since 1987, the event has grown into the largest festival of Filipino arts and culture in the Pacific Northwest.

This celebration is a part of Seattle Center Festál, a series of cultural programs sponsored by the City of Seattle. Pagdiriwang provides a venue for Filipinos and non-Filipinos alike to learn about the culture. It is an ideal setting for presenting art, craft, song, dance, music, history, literature, and culture to promote better understanding of the Filipino cultural heritage.

We unite Filipinos in Oregon to build community through programming that addresses and advocates for the needs of marginalized Filipinos living in Oregon - including Filipino workers, new migrants, immigrants, youth, elders, women, LGBTQ+, people of faith, and many more of our kababayan.

We serve our community by providing resources, education, and information that will empower Filipinos to make healthy, informed choices, and support one another.

We believe that those most impacted by socio-economic injustices should lead in the development of long-term solutions. Using a community organizing framework, we will elevate community stories toward needs-based programs, campaigns, and advocacy. Our center’s aim is to connect community members to essential resources, while building capacity to engage with the issues we face as a community towards change.

The work of the Center aims to create a space where Filipinos can find a home amongst each other and create opportunities to connect with, and to advocate for, our motherland and fellow kababayan.
