Community resource listings will grow organically as you and others are added! If you’re involved with community work related to EchoX themes – ethnic cultural heritage and social action – click ‘Sign Up’ in the upper right corner and add your own page to the Directory for free!

The festival began in 2006 after Cyrus Khambatta, Executive Artistic Director for Khambatta Dance attended an Artistic Director Leadership training program with a grant from The Paul G. Allen Foundation and began to realize a long, stirring desire to connect audiences with dance through the festival environment. After a decade in which his own Khambatta Dance was invited to numerous international festivals, each with its own particular take on dance, he found the excitement and fervor with which audiences digested dance works to be a stimulating environment in which to create.

The genesis of the Indipino Community of Bainbridge Island began when thirty-six Indigenous women from nineteen different tribes in Canada, Washington State and Alaska migrated to Bainbridge Island, Washington to pick berries for Japanese American farmers in late 1930s and early 1940s. There they met and married young Filipino immigrant bachelors and settled on the Puget Sound Island located in the traditional territory of the Suquamish people.

A highly regarded and celebrated GLBT and Two-Spirit advocate across communities throughout the Northwest, Hiram Calf Looking is the founder of House of Star – a Northwest-based drag family with a mission of raising awareness for drag queens of color and promoting AIDS advocacy and awareness across communities of color. Hiram is also deeply invested in mentorship of new Native American drag queens and drag queens of color, locally, regionally, nationally, and internationally. A passionate community organizer, with a broad base of expertise, Hiram Calf Looking currently serves as the Co-Chair of the Washington Indian Civil Rights Commission, Co-Chair of the Northwest Two-Spirit Society, serves on the Board of the Montana Two-Spirit Society, and is an active delegate/member of the International Council of Two-Spirit Society, and the Blackfeet Nation Northwest Delegation. Stops include the Burke Museum, wǝɫǝbʔaltxʷ [Intellectual House], Indigenous artworks, the Medicinal Herb Garden, the Ethnic Cultural Center, the Husky Union Building (HUB) and Union Bay Natural Area. The booklet, with physical copies available at University libraries and other campus buildings beginning Autumn 2021.
